France Couple's Vacation Review: French Riviera, Paris, Loire Valley, Cooking Class, Food & Wine, History & Culture

Our agent planned our trip according to our specifications, and we thought we would enjoy driving from Provence to the French Riviera, but the rental car agency ended up giving us a car that was much too large for what we needed on the narrow winding roads high above Nice.  We would have rented a car in Provence only and then taken a train to the French Riviera.  It was a bit stressful trying to find our way around to the coastal towns and find parking.  We likely would have had a couple of tours set up to keep the stress level down. 
The only other thing is we felt that some of the rooms we stayed in at the 4-star hotels were not 4-star rooms.  But on the other hand, the locations of the hotels were well thought out and were in locations where we could easily walk to restaurants, etc., and the Paris hotel was just across the street from the metro.

Regarding the car, I’m sorry to see that the car you had was a bit oversized. We had booked a C5 Citroen. On the pictures it looked like a regular sedan, not too big, not too small. But I see now on the internet that are some bigger SUV versions. Maybe it’s that one that you’ve been provided with. Sorry for the inconvenience and the difficulties you had on small roads or to find parking.

Sometimes the French rental agencies think they do a favor to their clients by offering them a bigger car than expected, but it’s not an advantage at the end! Also, I’ve noted that some of the so-called 4* hotels where you stayed did not appear to deliver 4* level of comfort. I’ll share this feeling with the managers of the hotel so that they pay more attention to the rooms and staff.
