Your overall comments on the trip and the travel company:

Our travel specialist and the travel company provided an amazing trip for us to Guatemala in January. Working with them was easy, as they listened and adjusted the tour according to our interests, and kept on top of any problems that arose. The properties that they recommended were truly world class and the guides were knowledgable, friendly, and easy to spend time with and converse with. We changed the itinerary while there to add a half day bird watching trip, and it was amazing. The new guide took over and the birding really highlighted the trip to the ruins of Tikal and Yaxha.

What were the most enjoyable or memorable parts of your trip?

Everything was amazing. From the colonial capital of Antigua, to the indigenous markets, to Lake Atitlan and its surrounding cultural cities, to the pyramids of Yaxha and Tikal and their surrounding jungles and wildlife, it was a lovely trip. Surprises abounded, like toasting marshmallows on hot gas from the fumarole of the volcano we climbed, to having our own private hot tub on our patio overlooking the lake in Flores.

If you could take your trip again, what would you do differently?

Perhaps spend a few more days in the jungle birding would be great. And the boat ride on Lake Atitlan was harrowing because of 5 foot waves and high winds the day we went. Because we only had one day at Atitlan, we could not wait for the next day to take the trip when the winds died down. We would have also liked a little extra time in the markets, but the distances in Guatemala are much larger than expected, as was travel time, so we were unfortunately a little limited.
