We started planning for this trip over a year ago and knew very little about Peru when we began. I we were sure about was that we wanted to see Machu Picchu and the Upper Peruvian Amazon. With just this little bit in information our agent at this Peru travel company designed a perfect trip for us.I love traveling and have strong opinions on how I want to travel and our agent took all this into account when planning our 12 day trip. He figured out the best itinerary and arranged all the drivers, guides and tours for us. I had a few hotels that I had seen on the web that I was interested in and he made sure to build those into the plan.
We are now back from this trip and I am still amazed at how perfectly everything worked out. We didn't have to worry about anything-we had drivers to take us to our hotels from the airports, guides to show us around the areas we visited and some of the most beautiful and unique properties to return to at end of each exciting day. There was not one single hiccup! In 12 days!
Our time in the Sacred Valley was so relaxing, Machu Picchu so exciting, and our wonderful cruise on the Amazon was breathtaking. Each and every detail was perfect and for this I thank our agent and his team. They gave us the trip of a lifetime.
How can i choose between the serenity and history of the Sacred Valley, or the majesty of Machu Picchu or the raw beauty of the Amazon and Rain Forest? Each was special in it's own way. Our accommodations were just as memorable. Sol Y Luna and its beautiful Casitas in the gardens of the Sacred Valley, Inkaterra Machu Picchu in the Rainforest with its orchids and birds or La Casona in all its Colonial glory in Cusco. Some of the best hotels we have ever visited. Of course our suite on the Aqua , with its wall of windows overlooking the Amazon and forest beyond was the thing dreams are made of. It was all so memorable-truly the trip of a lifetime.
The only think I would change is our layover in Lima on our arrival. The city is interesting but way too large and crowded to be pleasant. I would instead follow our agent's original suggestion and proceed immediately to Cusco. It is a beautiful town with wonderful plazas to explore and much more interesting to spend some extra time-not to mention the great shopping available. It would also have allowed us to stay another day at the La Casona-a truly amazing experience.
