We would slow the pace as we were traveling with older parents, one of whom has some mobility challenges (uses a cane). What I didn't know was the limits of mobility assistance in Europe. There were some activities my parents simply could not do. 
When we go back, we would focus on one country, stay a few days in two or three cities and try to really experience each town. However our trip was exactly what we asked for and was very enjoyable!
