Your overall comments on the trip and the travel company:

We had a fantastic time! Two single women, ages 65 and 80, and there wasn't a single snag. Tours were great, picked us up on time, and were guided by expert naturalists (and sometimes historians!) The travel team were all incredibly nice and accommodating, and really know the territory. We asked lots of questions about handicap accessibility, and changed our budget and itinerary, and they were great about it. They know the best people in each location to partner with. And when we had a question about something, we just called their US number and got info right away. We found a hotel in Manuel Antonio that we preferred over the one originally planned, and Our travel agency worked out the details with no problem. Highly recommend.

What were the most enjoyable or memorable parts of your trip?

We really liked our hotel in the Arenal area -- it was great for birders -- and the zip line there was probably the highlight of our trip. My 80-year-old aunt was totally able to do it, the guide was great, it was totally exhilarating. The night walk to find nocturnal creatures was just amazing and really unusual, we were so pleased to be able to have dinner in a Costa Rican home, not to mention the frogs we saw! We also loved the mangrove tour in Damas Island that this travel agency arranged for us, it was really fun as well as educational.

If you could take your trip again, what would you do differently?

Everything was pretty perfect. I might skip the nature walk in Manuel Antonio Park, there are hordes of people entering at about the same time... better to go at an off time and see if you could get a smaller group. If you do the Damas Island mangrove tour, skip the kayaks unless you're dying to paddle, and do the boat instead. That guide covers a larger area and can show you more about the environment and animals because the group isn't spread out/dealing with small kids who can't steer a kayak.
