Travel Review: Italy & Switzerland Vacation, Rome, Florence, Zermatt, Sorrento, Capri Boat Tour, Venice Gondola Ride, Vatican Tour

We received very little info about each day and it caused problems for us. I had to write him and ask as we went along, otherwise I wouldn't have heard from him at all. It didn't seem like he understood what our tours would be either though.For instance, our trip to Capri was an all day trip, and we asked him if we need to be prepared for anything such as if we would be able to swim. He said yes, bring swimsuits and towels. In a 100°F day we carried a backpack of beach towels and swimsuits, and any free time provided to us ended up being on the tops of mountains. Another day a driver showed up one hour early from what we were told,and said that was the time he was told to pick us up. We were ready, so we raced around and headed out, and the driver was right, it would've been a problem if he picked us up any later. Our biggest problem occurred after a tour of the Vatican, we couldn't understand our tour guides English at all. Because he was also scheduled to show us the coliseum and ancient Rome the following day, I wrote our agent at 5 PM when we return to the hotel and let him know of the problem and we needed a different guide. He never returned my message. At 10:15 PM when we returned from dinner, I called him. It sounded like I woke him up.He said he received my message but because he was traveling he couldn't return it.  He said he would cancel the tour but I would not get my money back, and no other guides were available.  He was very argumentative with me, and told me I was the only person in five years that cant understand this guy. I'm not sure why that's relevant, the problem was I couldn't understand him. After an unnerving phone call, I laid awake all night fuming. I paid way too much money to be treated like that. In my email the next morning I found he sent two skip the line tickets, which were a joke, the line if you had skip a line tickets wrapped all the way around the coliseum. We ended up joining a tour guide at the Coliseum, and paying another $26 to get in. He was wonderful, and it made me wonder why I was bothering with private guides. The next day, we had added a tour oof underground Rome. It was described on my confirmation paper as an optional tour. Our agent said he would do that complementary because of the problems, which would make me break even. The guide was wonderful, but the problem was he wasn't told the tour was underground Rome and said most of those places will be closed since it was Monday. He walked us around to a lot of places in Rome we hadn't seen, but it wasn't what were expecting. We also had to pay museum admission ourselves? we ended up having a very nice time with him, but it was frustrating that it wasn't the tour we had asked for.  We were also surprised that our travel company didn't tell us that the world's fair was being held in Milan if we wanted to go there for a day or two.
