This travel agency was wonderful to work with right from the start. We were fussy about flights (time of day, non-stop, extra legroom) and he was quick to offer all the alternatives, and do something that I didn't think was possible. In order to avoid back-tracking during a 7-day trip, he was able to have us fly into Geneva and out of Zurich without exorbitant pricing for not doing round-trips out of the same airport. I've booked a lot of my own flights, but I don't think I would have been able to figure that one out!
Our travel planner was extremely knowledgeable about Switzerland, and was able to quickly offer an itinerary that worked for us. We had never been to that country, and wanted a week of highlights, without a jammed pack itinerary. I have to say that he was able to pace the trip practically perfectly--there was always a break for a nap before dinner!
The hotels chosen were beautiful--I don't remember, but must have said something about enjoying having a view, because we had stunning views from our rooms of the lakes and mountains.
He also included some luxuries that we had always been too frugal to consider, and has made us believers! Having a private driver for every transfer was just fantastic. No stress. No time wasted picking up and dropping off rentals, no getting lost. It made getting to and from planes and trains very, very nice. The other luxury was having private tour guides. Our planner picked a couple of truly wonderful guides who took care of every detail for us, were fun to hang out with, and went out of their way to make sure our day went exactly as we wanted.
Finally, we had a pre-paid dinner included on our last night in Lucerne, not something we particularly asked for, nor discussed with our travel planner. It was a fantastic surprise called the Kitchen Club--a private party down the escalator into the hotel kitchen, with an 8 course meal, prepared while we watched, with everything explained by the kitchen manager and the head chef. We had a great time, and had a blast mingling and chatting with the other dinner guests.
Seeing the traditional way that Gruyere cheese is made by a having the guide get translate the funny comments of the cheesemaker.
Doing lots of trail walking at the summit of Mt. Pilatus and seeing at least 8 Ibexes no more than 30 feet away from us.
Feeling a sense of the history of tourism staying at the historic hotel in Zermatt, and getting such very personal attention from the staff!
We loved Lucerne, and would have liked to have spent another day there to do some hiking. We would not have taken the time to stay in Zurich.
I might have enjoyed doing the whole Glacier express. We only spent three hours on the train--I wasn't bored when we had to get off, I could have enjoyed more, and heard that the St. Moritz end of the trail is very different scenery than the Zermatt end.
