Travel Review: New Zealand, Auckland, Napier, Mt Cook, Doubtful Sound, Wildlife, Maori Culture

We had a most enjoyable morning with our local guide in Napier who explained to us New Zealand’s Maori culture. This included a personal Maori welcome and a visit to the Maori heritage centre before exploring the reserve where we were introduced to the Maori myths, legends and customs.

The highlight of our 4-week journey was an overnight cruise in Doubtful Sound fiord. From the short ferry across Lake Manapouri and the coach over the Wilmot Pass to pick up the boat at Deep Cove the scenery was breath-taking. The peace and quiet in the sound with the dolphins and seals was amazing.
