The trip that our travel agent helped us plan was absolutely second to none. Her careful attention to detail, her flexibility in helping us stay within our budget, and the degree to which she truly cared about the experience she was helping us to have were all outstanding. Her knowledge, the detail she included in our itineraries, and the careful selection of the places that we stayed made our belated honeymoon so completely worth the two year wait!
If you want to be able to experience the "big ticket items" of Italy (e.g. we saw St. Mark's, Pompeii, got to go on a FABULOUS visit to a vineyard in Tuscany) but not be a slave to the massive crowds and lines there can be (we went in September so things were quieting down but the weather was still gorgeous), This agent can make that happen for you. Our whole experience, from telling her the kind of travellers we are, to her helping us make the most out of our budget (while not feeling like we were skimping out), to actually being in Italy and getting around via the trains and transfers she planned for us, it was all just so easy. We will never forget the time she helped us have. Thank you!
One of the most memorable parts of our trip was when we were able to go visit a vineyard in Tuscany for most of a day. We got to go with a group that our agent arranged for us. We not only got to be in a very small group (4 couples), but we got to spend time with the vineyard's general manager (I'm not sure what his job title actually was but he was hilarious, and his knowledge was expansive), tasting beautiful wine that he and his employees make with careful focus on quality and then we got to go make and enjoy a beautiful meal together (fresh pasta that we made together, anyone?)!
Our travel was really easy and the transfers were clutch (especially from Naples to the Amalfi coast!). Everything just seemed to fall into place.
We would probably try to incorporate a little more time in the countryside into our trip if we were able to go on our trip again. I think we would have liked to exercise a little more and be out of the towns, but honestly, our trip was excellent. The one tour that we went on that wasn't that great (but still beautiful to be there), was our tour of St. Mark's in Venice. There were too many people and the tour company just didn't seem to have their act together. It was a walking tour with the little headsets and they were just really scattered about coordinating where people should be, having enough headsets, and were a little dismissive of their guests.
