Your overall comments on the trip and the travel company:

My wife and I could not be happier about our experience with Zicasso’s travel company. From beginning to end, our tour operator and the staff were courteous, concerned, and helpful.

At the outset, they inquired about all of our interests and travel preferences, and were able to put together an itinerary that suited us well, including choosing really nice hotels and good restaurants.

Once we arrived in Costa Rica, and for the entire two weeks of our stay, they were in touch with us every step of the way, making sure our trip was going well and as planned.

Their drivers were prompt, friendly, and careful on the road. This was important because given the nature of our itinerary, we had several three- to four-hour land transfers by automobile.

The travel company also made good choices in the tour companies they picked for us in our four locations: Manuel Antonio, Monteverde, Tortuguero, and Arenal.

This was our second trip to Costa Rica (the last one was about 10 years ago) and we may well return. If so, we would undoubtedly ask Zicasso’s tour company to handle our plans.

What were the most enjoyable or memorable parts of your trip?

During our 14 days, we had 12 excursions; too many to discuss in detail. All of them were very good. To the extent there were limitations, they were caused by weather or our limitations in overestimating our abilities to handle difficult trails, which caused us to cut short a couple of hikes. But that was OK. We still enjoyed every excursion.

There were a few that were particularly memorable. Although Manuel Antonio was a bit busy, our guide was excellent and there was so much to see, so it was worth it. The hike in Parrita was also really nice, as it was a bit quieter.

The rafting and the sea-kayaking outings were fun. Tortuguero was a wonderful place to visit, with the quiet rides down the smaller channels in the national park being particularly enjoyable and a definite highlight.

We were pleasantly surprised by the cave outing because it was so natural, without cement walkways or lights.

Finally, although we only completed part of the Hule Volcano lagoon hike, the countryside was incredibly beautiful and the meal afterward was outstanding.

If you could take your trip again, what would you do differently?

The only thing we might do differently is reduce one of the land transfers and fly from one of our destinations to the next – probably from the Tortuguero area to Arenal.

If we go back, we will probably try to go to places we did not visit this time. We know we only scratched the surface and that there is so much more to see.
