Your overall comments on the trip and the travel company:

The travel agency orchestrated a very full and diverse tour of Egypt -- Cairo, Aswan, and Luxor -- for my family of five (2 adults, 3 teenagers). It might be easy to get "antiquity-fatigue" in a place like Egypt, but the company struck a perfect balance of storytelling and education where it enhanced our tour, as well as planning time for us to take in the grandeur of where we were on our own. I liked how we could experience the city, villages, and countryside as they are today. At all times we had access to a local guide who could assist with just about anything. Responses were fast both when planning the itinerary and when communicating with guides during our trip.

What were the most enjoyable or memorable parts of your trip?

Biking through Luxor toward the Valley of the Kings and seeing the west bank wake up: opening up store fronts, setting off for work, was a bike ride we will remember fondly for a long time. The kids absolutely loved the camel rides, and mom and dad enjoyed every moment (morning and evening) overlooking the Nile from wonderfully selected hotels. The hotel restaurants were excellent, but we were happiest with the local restaurants the agency reserved and planned for us, especially Felfela in Cairo, Fatir in Khan al Khalili, and Kentaka in Aswan. These were wonderful selections I doubt we could have discovered ourselves.

If you could take your trip again, what would you do differently?

We would have scheduled more time to stroll throughout the Khan al Khalili bazaar, since the challenge of bargaining took a little bit of preparation for everyone in our group to warm up to. Also, the travel agency gave somewhat helpful advice ahead of time about appropriate tipping amounts in Egyptian custom, but the scheduling (transfers, drop offs) were so smoothly coordinated by the agency it wasn't always clear to us how many folks from the tour we would meet on each day. If I went again I would prepare the cash I carried with me a little differently.
