this was a great trip and all aspects of the itinerary were smoothly executed by the in-country teams.  A couple of points need to be mentioned:
1.  the overall high quality of the guides we experienced was not found in the Rome guide who despite stating at the first meeting that he would not talk about politics took every opportunity to tell us his political views and stances.  We have never experienced this active advocacy of a particular political stance from any previous guide in any of the numerous trips we have taken over about 30 years.  In the end we suggested that an alternative guide be provided and this change in guides greatly improved our trip to the Vatican. 
2.  just a small point - never having traveled on the Italian rail system before we would have benefited from more pre trip information about the rail tickets.  Arriving at the station on the first trip from Florence to Rome we had to quickly absorb the system mechanics such as platform locations, seating and so on which caused some stress on our part.  We ought to have asked for more information before the trip so we admittedly contributed to this stress.  However, we would recommend that you provide clients with some information pre trip.  For example, explain that the client will be located in x carriage and identify the seat numbers.  We did not know we were in the Club Car and had to ask about the seat locations.  This is not to say that finding out things ourselves isnt a good idea - it is - but when time is short its helpful to have some idea of what to expect.
