Your overall comments on the trip and the travel company:

We had a wonderful trip to Normandy and the the Loire Valley, with excellent planning by this travel company. Our agent did a great job working with us to tailor an itinerary to our desires and selected welcoming accommodations and guides to assist us in our travels.

What were the most enjoyable or memorable parts of your trip?

• The day tour of the D-Day landing areas was highly memorable.

• Our visit to Mont Saint Michel allowed us to check a special place off our "bucket list."

• Our time with our guide who escorted us for three days through the Loire area was special. She was focused on making sure we enjoyed our stay, spent time with us well beyond what was scheduled, and allowed us to see many amazing sites. It's tough to narrow down all of the great places we stopped, but Chateaux Villandry, Chenonceau and Ambois would rise near the top of the list.

• We should also mention that our accommodations were very nice. In Bayeux the proprietor of our guesthouse made us feel extremely welcome, provided great restaurant suggestions, and helped orient us to our first stop in France. Our hotel was well situated in Amboise and provided us with a more spacious room and bed for the four nights we spent near the Loire.

If you could take your trip again, what would you do differently?

We would skip the traditional French barge trip. While interesting, it was a bit long, and with the exception of an nice view the Amboise Chateau, the experience seemed almost identical to traveling on the Wisconsin river, which is only a short distance from where we live.

We would have tried to shorten the visit to La Magnanerie de Bourre. It was interesting and we were glad we went, though what was covered could have been done in 45 minutes instead of 90.

We would have started the day trip to Mont Saint Michel at 8:00 instead of 9:00 to get us there a bit more ahead of the crowds. (The queue to the shuttle can be a bit long.)

We did make one change from our initially planned itinerary in that instead of going to Blois we went to Chinon (including a wine tasting) and stopped in some small villages along the way.
