Review: Winter Break Vacation in Iceland, Reykjavik, Snowmobiling, Glacier Climb, Ice Caves

Our family of four was led by this travel agent, a native-Icelandic tour guide from Rekyavik all the way to the South coast where we were introduced to a varying array of scenery - from scenic, to quite rugged glaciers, ice, and up to the mountain area for a snowmobiling adventure. 

With a very busy work schedule, I had no time to do any research on must-see sites across Iceland. This travel agent took care of all that. His Land Rover fit us and all of our luggage quite well, and his tires were studded which meant we drove quite effortlessly up snowy/icy terrain, and never had any 'down time.' Our week was spent very efficiently, which can be very important in the winter months where there is only 5 hours of daylight. Getting lost on your own, can cost you an entire day of potential sightseeing. I was so glad we were being guided by a native on this trip!

OUr agent helped us find genuine Icelandic souvenir items as well, rather than ones made in the far East. Be on the lookout for this....the shops can be quite sneaky in the regard.  He was also very professional and always had the car ready to go and pulled up close to the hotel (we changed hotels nightly as we drove) entry ways so that we could get our luggage loaded quickly. Also, as the ground was icy and deadly slippery, he always ensured he parked in such a way that we could avoid slipping on ice. This may sound trivial, but once you are in Iceland in winter...you'll fully understand how important this is.  

All in all, we had a very enjoyable and action-packed weeklong holiday in Iceland - made more efficient and thorough due to a highly knowledgeable and friendly tour guide.
