Your overall comments on the trip and the travel company:

Zicasso’s travel partner provided five-star service. Special mention must be made for one of the limousine drivers, but everyone involved played their part in ensuring Carmel and I had a holiday in Spain to remember.

What impressed us the most wasn't the seamless perfection of the tour's progression because nothing on Earth is perfect. When the inevitable (small!) problems arose, such as issues with a couple of the hotel rooms, a change of transport from trains to hiring a car for a couple of days, cancellation by us of a proposed day tour in Madrid, and confusion regarding a restaurant booking, all were handled efficiently and promptly, without demur. The agency kept us fully informed at all times regarding what was going on and any changes to the original tour itinerary. It certainly made for ease of mind.

In addition, a couple of refunds were made to us, including for the cancellation (by us!) of the day tour in Madrid. This refund appeared in my PayPal account within a few days of the cancellation and without any representations by me. I've had many dealings with tour companies and agents over the years to appreciate just how rare this prompt refund was; some would say miraculous! Another brownie point for the team.

What were the most enjoyable or memorable parts of your trip?

Most enjoyable were Gaudi in Barcelona; the flamenco dancers in that same city; the Guggenheim in Bilbao; the food, especially in Basque Country; the spectacular scenery of the Asturias and elsewhere; and the general friendliness and helpfulness of the local people.

In all the countries in which we have traveled, quite a few over the years, the abiding memories tend to be colored by the interaction we have had with the local population. Generally speaking, the friendlier the locals, the more memorable the trip, and Spanish people are predominantly a courteous and friendly bunch.

If you could take your trip again, what would you do differently?

As seems to be the case with most travelers, we tried to cram too much in, always a temptation when you live in a country like Australia, which is a 21-hour flight away from Europe. Less is more, as the saying goes; a more relaxed trip will be on the cards the next time.
