Travel Review: Custom Family Vacation on Greece, Mykonos, Santorini, Folegrandos, Athens, Sailing Catamaran Tour, Cooking Class

I would not take the sea jet from island to island. We were in a "herd of cattle". Did I mention that if there is to much wind they do not run. We nearly were stuck on Folegrandos. We got the last boat and arrived in Athens at 2 AM after a 4 hour delay but were lucky to get there at all. I would not go to Myconos or Folegrandos, there are better islands. I'm really pleased you loved all of the hotels, they were well located, and you enjoyed the catamaran and wine tasting tour of Santorini. Also that your ferries, hotels, transfers and tours were all booked correctly and your trip ran very smoothly from start to finish (apart from the weather, which I wish I had more control over). I'm sorry that you felt that 2 of the islands did not suit you. August is a very busy time to go to Greece, and islands like Mykonos do get very crowded, as do the high speed ferries which are the only way to get between the islands. If you stay on an island with a good choice of luxury hotels like Mykonos, and you are directly on a sandy beach with very easy access, close to the town and restaurants, everyone else wants to be there too. But the other alternative is a very quiet island like Folegandros, without the crowds - but access to the beaches, and the island itself is restricted. Unfortunately, Greece is not like the Caribbean with lots of empty beaches and luxury beachfront resorts. But it does have an atmosphere, history and culture which sets it apart. In Mykonos, your hotel has a very good concierge with lots of advice for different boat trips to different beaches, and opportunities to rent a car or scooters to discover beaches which are further off the beaten path. Many of our clients have really enjoyed discovering this other side of Mykonos. It is not usually necessary to prebook ATV's or scooters as they are always available, I'm sorry they were booked up for your trip. However, there are a number of beaches close to the hotel, accessible on foot and one more accessible only by boat from the port right by the hotel. So there shouldn't have been a problem visiting the majority of the island's beaches during your stay, even without a means of transport. In hindsight, a compromise between these two islands may have been an island like Paros - but this island does not have the same luxury hotels on offer. I wonder if you may also have been more suited to a private yacht charter, so you would have had a guide and transport throughout your trip to allow greater flexibility according to your tastes. I will make sure and try and obtain more information from future clients on their expectations and needs so we can avoid this mismatch of islands in the future.
