Paul from this Peru travel agency was extremely helpful in planning our customized itinerary. He offered helpful insights like staying at least one night in Lima before our outbound international flight, because the internal flight is often delayed due to inclement weather at my time of travel. Also, he advised against going to Puno as the first stop on the trip, because it has the highest altitude.

Despite the few bouts of altitude sickness and food poisoning, the trip was an awesome experience. The Inca Trail was harder than I expected, but it is definitely etched in our memories forever, and I don't regret it.

What were the most enjoyable or memorable parts of your trip?

The most memorable part was probably grudgingly waking up at 3am on the 2nd night of our Inca Trail hike to use the bathroom, only to be mesmerized by the stars and the Milky Way.

Staying at the Inkaterra lodge at Puerto Maldonado was also a relaxing, pampered experience that was really enjoyable.

If you could take your trip again, what would you do differently?

I'm satisfied with the overall itinerary. The floating islands of Uros were unique, but I'm not sure if it's worth 2.5 days of our trip, including busing there, the one day excursion, and flying out. Perhaps I could've allocated that time for the rainforest instead, and gone either deeper into the rainforest at Puerto Maldonado, or visited Manu or Iquitos instead, which would've required more time than the 2.5 days we allocated for Puerto Maldonado.
