Travel Review: Peru Tour, Lima, Pisac, Ollantaytambo, Urubamba, Machu Picchu

I used Zicasso to put me in touch with a couple of local travel agents for a trip I was taking to Peru.  This agent sent me an introductory email with a number of questions.  He also included his phone number and an invitation to call.  I contacted him and we had a good chat about the kind of vacation I was hoping to have.

He sent a proposed itinerary a day later -- after reviewing it, I suggested changing it up a bit (we wanted to spend less time in big cities and more time in Machu Picchu) -- he sent a revised itinerary the next day.  It looked good to me, I paid the deposit.  Our agent made all arrangements except for the international travel from SFO to Lima -- I took care of that piece.

The trip by far and away exceeded my expectations in every regard.  The travel company sent us final travel documents a week before our departure -- this included a detailed record of our itinerary, describing where and when we would be met by guides and drivers. They arranged for amazing tour guides  -- great language skills, personable and a great knowledge of the history of the areas we visited.  Our guide was with us for two days through Pisac, Urubamba and Ollantaytambo.  He was able to make fine recommendations for local restaurants serving good local dishes -- in each case, the restaurants were great.

Our guide through Machu Picchu was again, very knowledgeable,  and a terrific guide.  This was the most amazing part of the trip.

An unexpected strike prevented us from retrieving our luggage after the Machu Picchu portion of our trip, but one call to our travel company had our luggage delivered to our hotel that very evening.
