Review: Italy Honeymoon, Rome, Venice, Florence, Tuscany, Amalfi Coast, Capri, Colosseum, Vatican, St Peter's Basilica

We started in Venice, this was not high on my wife's list of cities she wanted to see but she was happy to appease me, it turned out to be one of our favorite parts of the trip.  There wasn't one particular thing we did in Venice that stands out but it's such a unique, romantic and special place just to soak in.  Our favorite destination was Tuscany!  We stayed just outside of Cortona in a beautiful hotel, we could've spent all day just relaxing there.  During the day we enjoyed exploring the towns and finding a nice local restaurant to share a bottle of wine and eat the fresh authentic delicious food for lunch and after a little rest in the afternoon at our wonderful hotel we would repeat the same thing for dinner.  One day we took a private wine tour set up by our agent.  We visited a couple of wineries and had lunch overlooking Tuscany in the town of Pienza, it was beautiful! The wineries were small and family owned, in fact at the second winery we were the only two people there.  Our driver was very friendly and knowledgeable about the area.  After a couple of days in Florence we took the train to Naples and then on to the Amalfi Coast.  This stop was right up there with Tuscany as a favorite.  Once again our travel agent out did himself with the hotel, we had a breathtaking view of Capri from our balcony.  The day after we arrived we did a private boat tour out to Capri.  Once again, this was beyond our exceptions.  The boat was clean and comfortable, the captain was very friendly and knowledgeable and the icing on the cake was after he drove us through the "Tunnel of Love" he served us a bottle of prosecco and a wonderful fruit tray...what a nice treat!  The next day we had a private driver show us the the Amafli Coast.  Once again we had an awesome day and the driver was excellent.  We finished our trip in Rome with a visit to the Colosseum, the Vatican and St. Peters Basilica - all very worthwhile to see.  One final note, as requested we did not do a lot of tours but all of the tours that our agent set up for us were all outstanding.  They were with small groups - max of 6 people- and the guides were interesting and very knowledgeable.
