Review: Luxury Greece Vacation, Athens, Naxos, Santorini, Oia

On Santorini, I would stay in Fira rather than Oia as we prefer a location more central to walking and local culture.  Oia was remote from the action and the hotel seemed like more suited for honeymooning than  vacationing.  Also the travel agent used for Santorini as not as helpful as those on Naxos and in Athens.  We would have used the buses in Santorini instead of taxis if we had known how reliable the buses are and also would have taken a tour by bus rather than hiring a personal guide (nice guy but not a professional guide) as was suggested to us.

I had offered two different package options for Irene & Joseph with 5 star hotels and they decided to go with the Athens, Naxos and Santorini for 8 nights. I had offered all the optional tours which were available in the islands and they only choose to stick with the Athens private walking tour and was not interested in booking any other tour. From the correspondence we had between us with all the details we exchange between us, I never offered them just a “cookie cutter” itinerary as they mentioned on the review.

In Santorini, the buses are not reliable at all as it arrives every 45 minutes and that’s the reason my colleague advised them that the best way to move around from Oia is either by renting a car or by taking taxis to avoid the hassle of waiting for a bus for a very long time. Our office in Santorini had offered them a private tour but it seemed quite expensive and therefore they decided they would only want a driver to take them around without a professional guide so you cannot expect much from a regular driver to share the history of the island and explain everything in details.

The Hotel in Santorini I have used for honeymooners, families and senior citizens and never had a complaint so far and if they wanted to stay in Fira instead of Oia I would have been happy to change the location and the hotel but since we booked the package in March and till the time they arrived in late September, I was never informed by the clients that they wanted to make any changes.
