The travel agency staff helped put together a wonderful trip through Germany for our 25th anniversary. During the initial conversations with the planning staff they were very attentive to our requests. The checklist they provided to us to understand what our likes and preferences were was a very nice tool to help compile a productive outline of things we would like to do. Being we wanted more of a self-guided tour, they put together a professional itinerary to meet all our needs. It was very well laid out with directions, optional locations to visit, maps, brochures, dinner reservations, event reservations all in a 12X15 portfolio. Our travel planners were very responsive to our feedback during the planning phase and did there very best to deal with all our little quirky requests and help implement any changes at the later part of the planning phase. Upon our visit we were met by our driver on the first day at the airport. He helped us get acclimated (rules of the road) and stayed with us the first day driving us around and visiting a few great places of interest. It was great to have someone there to spend the time with us and he is an exceptional individual. Following the first day, we had been provided a phone by our travel company, with that we began our daily communications with our representative. She kept in contact with us every day, checking in to see if we needed anything and just to spend a few minutes on the phone with us listening and sharing moments. Also, willing to just toss out some ideas as we did like to deviate a bit. In all it (the daily calls) made us feel connected in a way. Sort of like when your calling your family and letting them know how you are doing. In all, we opted to go with this travel agency, knowing we were paying a little extra for all the planning work. But the next level of customer service made it worth every penny. Great job by this company.
For myself, it was the architecture. As a young man in Germany (many) years ago I never took the opportunity to look and understand what I was surrounded by. To take the time and actually go through the cities, castles, churches and explore what happened hundred's of years ago was fascinating. To see the ingenuity that it took people to build, design and create these magnificent monuments was truly awe inspiring moments. Plus driving 150 mph down the autobahn one more time was pretty exhilarating. As for the spouse, well lets just say she has never told me what her favorite moments were. But I can say, she visited a lot of the shops and I mean a lot.
I believe if I could do anything differently, I would slow down. We tried so hard to do so much, I believe it could have been slightly less challenging if we had opted to spend more time in certain areas to enjoy the people, culture, sightseeing, etc.. Don't get me wrong it was a fantastic trip, we did so much in 10 days getting to see places like the Rhine Valley, Mosel Valley, Rothenburg, Amberg, Bamberg, Obervessel, Oberamergau and Ansbach. Now that you stop and take a look back, planning a little more slow time or a down day or two would have added a little more to the leisure side of the trip and I believe it would have been worth the sacrifice from the adventurous side.
