Very responsive, friendly and helpful when it came to a big change in our departing flight plan.
Did not feel that our opinions regarding the ideas for the trip and our preferences were initially taken into account or considered, we had to request a lot of the fine tuning of the trip and do a lot of the legwork regarding research of the country.
Would have been nice if there were more options for the trip given from the beginning without us having to request and adjust each of the details, especially when it came to issues regarding the weather and time of year being on the cusp of fall/winter. For example, we had been scheduled for the Dart River JetBoat, which ultimately, would have been a waste of an experience and quite miserable considering the local weather in Queenstown typical for early June, we noted this and requested it to be cancelled from or itinerary, but would've expected this to be researched by the travel company as well.
Disappointed by a couple of the accommodations, in Auckland and Taupo, while decent, but dated facilities, they were a 10-15 minute drive or taxi from the central or restaurant districts of town, would have preferred a more central location, with consideration to neighboring activities, again this was not discussed or asked of us during the booking or planning process.
We also had no communication and the local company did not touch base with us on a single occasion during our trip - this is in great contrast to our previously experience with a Zicasso company in another country, from the time we left, we felt that we were out of their hands and left to figure out the details of our trip based solely on separately emailed documents, no welcome packet with hard copies, etc, which were later requested at nearly every ticket operator, tour company for confirmation requiring local cell service, internet etc - again, this was not a consideration. Lacking on the details.
We really enjoyed the beautiful scenery of New Zealand, truly getting back to nature, the countryside, rolling green hills, local culture, and no shortage of adventure.
Queenstown was by far our favorite stopover. Waiheke was also a total highlight, wonderful wine tour and liked the option to stay late and travel by bus and take a later ferry back to the city.
Visit some of the smaller towns - Coromandel, go down south and take the ferry from Bluff across to Stuart Island hopefully to see some kiwi birds in the wild.
Would love to stopover and spend time in the summer, spend more time on the beach and in wine country, Marlborough.
TRAVEL COMPANY COMMENTS:
Thank you for taking the time to post your review. We are delighted you enjoyed your honeymoon in New Zealand & the Cook Islands. We appreciate your kind words regarding your flight change, schedule changes are always difficult and this one particularly so, we were pleased it all worked out.
We are surprised by your comments regarding your opinions, ideas and preferences not being taken into account and that you felt you requested a lot of fine tuning of your trip itinerary. We only ever provided one trip itinerary to you, which was subsequently accepted and booked. The initial requests of including Auckland, Hobbiton, Queenstown and adventure activities like bungy jumping, hiking, snorkeling were all included in your trip and I don't believe we could have fitted anything else in with the time you had. Queenstown is a year-round destination and activities operate all year round, we confidently recommend the Dart River activity year round and many of our team have taken this exact tour in June. The weather in Queenstown in winter is chilly in the morning and warms up by the afternoon to an average of 46 degrees, the tour company provides warm jackets and we recommend layers for tours to ensure warm enough. The ground tours in Queenstown very rarely cancel and travelers still take full enjoyment of the tour. We understand your personal preference to have ultimately chosen not to have taken the Dart River trip but we do not agree with your assertion that we were not researched or should not have recommended it.
We are sorry to hear all the hotels did not meet your expectations. The Auckland hotel is, in fact, a 5-minute drive from the Sky Tower or an 8-minute walk, this hotel is considered very centrally located in the city. In Taupo, resort is a 6-minute drive to town and the resort had several restaurant/eating options on site. All the documents for your trip were provided prior to your departure along with the advice to print & travel with the Evouchers in case you were asked for your confirmation number at the time of check-in. Our local affiliate office in New Zealand is always available for any questions or concerns you may have on your trip. For a ten night trip, you certainly included a lot of amazing locations & activities, we would have loved to be able to include additional areas in the North & South Islands but in order do so you would have had to sacrifice the 4 nights you spent in Queenstown which as you stated was your highlight (and most of our clients!) and spending any less than 6 nights for Auckland, Waitomo, Rotorua, Taupo & Tongariro would have been very difficult.
Thank you again for taking the time to share your feedback, one of the most frequent comments we have for our clients is that they wished they had more time to explore New Zealand and we are pleased to hear you felt the same way about this wonderful country.
